MOVED TO 12TH OF February (2nd Tuesday) for this month by NYCLU due to Presidential Primary Election in NY and Superbowl.

- our partner & host of this discussion series
Welcome everyone.
The meetup should have 25+ people since we're having it in conjunction with a great discussion group that the NYCLU just started in September. I went to the first one and it was great: great people from NYCLU, great attendees, and a great topic. I instantly knew it would be a great central activity for our renewed NYC Civil Rights & Civil Liberties Meetup upon which we can expand with other events and activities as we see fit - suggest via mailing list or email me directly.

We'll be meeting with the others going to the discussion series. Look for me or Timothy. We'll meet shortly before the 7 pm discussion start either in the NYCLU lobby on the 19th floor or in the conference room right by it where the discussion group is.

NYCLU's description:
But what is the School to Prison Pipeline?

Affecting hundreds of thousands of students nation wide and in New York state, the School to Prison Pipeline describes local, state and federal education and public safety policies that push students out of school and into the criminal justice system. This system disproportionately impacts youth of color and youth with disabilities.

As part of the NYCLU's continuing Civil Liberties Discussion Series, Chloe Dugger of the NYCLU will discuss the civil rights and civil liberties issues at play in the School to Prison Pipeline.

Following the presentation, NYCLU staff will lead a discussion with the speakers and attendees. Pizza and drinks will be provided to get the discussion going.

RSVP: Here *AND* register with NYCLU so you get on the security guard list OR YOU WILL NOT GET IN!
Please email your full name and Discussion Series to cdugger@nyclu.org (after you RSVP here)

Who attended?

    •  This was my first NYCLU discussion series - I had wanted to attend last month's but was unable to make it, so I braved the snow and was certainly glad I did! Chloe, who led our discussion, was absolutely phenomenal - very well-versed in the subject matter at hand. The length of the meeting was perfect; it was a nice mix between presentation and discussion; and hey they even provided free food and drink! :)
    •  NYCLU hosted a great presentation/discussion that got people involved and informed! Lots of people came, hopefully even more from this group will join in next time.
